Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturers are making inroads in Australia despite questions over links to alleged bribery and concerns over potential espionage due to their ability to beat Western competitors on price and performance, say telco industry insiders.
The assessment came after revelations that Chinese telco equipment maker ZTE had been shortlisted to build both Telstra’s new 5G mobile network and a separate critical West Australian technology infrastructure project, despite allegedly bribing foreign officials.
